Pro- Con Prescription Drugs

The U.S. pharmaceutical industry spends 2.5 billion on advertising prescription directly to consumers in 2015.  The US and New Zealand are the two countries where advertising prescription drugs is legal. These ads inform patients about diseases and possible treatments, encourage people to seek medical advice,  help remove stigma associated with medical conditions, and provide needed sales revenue to fund costly research. In 1700’s and 1800’s drug compounds use to be advertise in newspapers instead of TV commercials. By the early 1900’s, medication ads accounted for nearly half of the total ad revenue for newspapers. Physicians wrote prescriptions for patients even if they knew it wasn’t helpful but mostly so the drug can become more known also so they could earn more money. Today there are people using unsubscribed pills and/or pills off the streets or using prescribed ones too, but the number has increased a lot over the years. I disagree with the ads because  I wouldn’t want so many people to want to be on prescription drugs, in my opinion, If i was a doctor or nurse I would only give prescription to patients who really needed and I knew it would help. This article is very accurate and factual because it has a good background on the history of prescription drug ads and also gives the benefits and some non-beneficial factors as well. The Importance of this article is that too many people out in the world have a pill addiction or are taking too many pills. And one of the main causes of this are the prescription drug ads. Do you think this article gives good reasons why it is bad to take more prescription drugs than advised? Do you think this problem of pill abuse will ever stop?

Social Issues In The United States

In the website ISIDEWITH, I picked the topic, should the military allow women to serve in combat roles. According to the pole, overall 85% said yes they are capable of fulfilling these roles, and 15% said no they are not fit enough for the job. Woman would be able to serve as Army Rangers, Marine Corps, Infantry, and Navy Seal parajumpers. Also driving tanks, shooting mortars, and leading soldiers into combat. In Illinois, 87% said yes as long as they can complete the same physical tasks as men and 13% said no. There’s a lot of women who are stronger than men and are more capable of being in the army than some men are. Women’s equality voters said yes to 97% of the pole saying yes that preventing them from joining is discrimination. And 3% percent said no. So maybe that should be considered as an idea. According to White v.s. Black people, there is a 2% difference on if women should be able to serve in combat roles. Also between people who make less than 25k and people who make 150k-200k, there is only a 2% difference saying yes they should be able to be in combat roles. And between Unmarried couples and married couples, the difference is 6% saying yes. https://www.isidewith.com/poll/1613615491/2705924875

Women’s equality voters said yes to 97% of the pole saying yes that preventing them from joining is discrimination. And 3% percent said no. I also think that you should have to meet a certain physique and fitness level before being able to join, because if a person who isn’t capable of doing all the harsh things that they do, they wont be able to leave and now that person is stuck somewhere they don’t even want to be. So maybe that should be considered as an idea. https://www.isidewith.com/poll/1613615491/2705924875

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is about being thankful for all the good things in life and being grateful for them. My family gets together on Thanksgiving and we eat a family dinner. We eat things like turkey, chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, biscuits, etc. The main dish every year is either chicken or turkey. Some traditions my family do are watch movies and spend time together. Another tradition is taking a vacation somewhere for a week or so. Also we watch a lot of sports. Like football and basketball, we also send out cards to family members to show how we are grateful for them. A Thanksgiving dinner should be a tradition for every family who celebrates this holiday. Another tradition is playing football in the backyard.

Positive Article

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-06/taxi-driver-homeless-food-service-expands/9121676

This article is about family who started an organization to feed the homeless. Every Sunday they would get together with others and make food for the homeless. I believe this article is neutral because it lets the reader make their own opinion or decision. The positive about this article is that these people take their time out of the day to spend their own money to make food for the people in need. In my opinion I would do the same and I would do all I can to feed the people in the need if they really deserve it.

Would you take 10% of your income to help feed the homeless? Do you think all homeless people deserve it?
